Barcelona First Team Ready To Cut Salaries Due To The Impact Of COVID-19

JAKARTA - Barcelona's main team is reportedly ready to accept salary cuts amid the suspension of soccer competitions in Spain and Europe due to the COVID-19 pandemic or the corona virus.

Currently the players are training on their own as a result of the club's quarantine and the suspension of La Liga until at least April 4.

Launching Football Espana, Monday, March 23, Barcelona President Josep Bartomeu will immediately hold talks with representatives of players regarding this difficult situation. This is done in order to reach a mutual agreement.

But the Nou Camp dressing room fillers are aware of the difficult conditions faced not only for Las Blaugranas but many football clubs in Europe.

Barcelona's finances are not only affected by the cessation of income from match ticket sales and broadcasting rights, but also because the Spanish government has practically generated revenue from other business sectors.

Barcelona has lost revenue items from their football schools scattered around the world, posts of acceptance from sponsors or sales from their official shops and museums that were closed due to the lockdown.

Talks between management and players are still in their early stages, but are likely to go smoothly.

In addition to considering the continuity of its workers, Barcelona must also prepare a joint fund that is being pioneered by the European club association (ECA) to help finance the clubs most affected by COVID-19 as well as concrete steps against the pandemic.

The solidarity fund case will only be decided later in the ECA teleconference which will be held this Monday.

Barcelona currently tops the La Liga standings with a two-point advantage over rivals Real Madrid. While the league still has 11 games left.
