Marathon Digital Holdings Announces Bitcoin Mining Project In Finland

JAKARTA - Marathon Digital Holdings, the world's largest Bitcoin mining company, recently announced an ambitious project that will warm up the entire city in Finland. The trick is to take advantage of the excess heat generated from Bitcoin mining.

This pilot project uses an innovative district warm-up method. In Finland, the water is heated centrally and distributed through an underground pipeline network to warm up houses. Interestingly, the heat used comes from computing digital assets, particularly Bitcoin mining. Thus, in addition to generating profits from mining, Marathon also contributes to sustainable housing warming.

According to CryptoNews information, Marathon has launched a 2-megawatt pilot project in the Satakunta region, Finland. More than 11,000 residents will benefit. This is Marathon's first pilot project based on district warming in the European region.

In addition to the Marathon's big project, other companies are also exploring Bitcoin mining-based heating solutions on a smaller scale. Heatbits, for example, are heating engines and plug-and-play' air purifiers that mine Bitcoin while generating heat.

Hashlabs Mining has also launched a similar project using a custom-designed Bitcoin mining device. WhatsMiner M63S, an ASIC mining device, produces about 70°C of hot water in the cooling process.

Bitcoin miners continue to look for ways to increase their income. After the 2024 Bitcoin halving event that reduces block prizes, Marathon Digital Holdings seeks to monetize the excess heat generated by its mining facilities and data centers. By selling the heat, Marathon not only benefits itself, but also contributes to global energy transformation.
