Using Elephant Grass, Wood Thieves In Protected Forest, Karangasem Bali, Tricking Officers

KARANGASEM - A resident with the initials IYW (57) was arrested by members of the Rendang Police, Karangasem Regency, Bali, for stealing wood in the protected forest area of Munduk Bunu.

"Yes, there has been an incident of forest timber theft", said Police Chief of Rendang, Police Commissioner I Made Sud Journalist, Tuesday, March 16.

This theft occurred at 17.30 WITA. At that time the police together with the Rendang forestry team were carrying out a patrol. The officers received information from the community about timber theft in forest areas.

Furthermore, the officer came to the location. The police stopped the pickup from inside the forest area. It was found forest types of ampupu and calliandra wood were covered using elephant grass.

When interrogated, the perpetrator admitted that the wood came from inside the Munduk Bunut forest area. The police secured the perpetrator along with evidence to the Rendang Police.

"The modus operandi is that the perpetrator is stealing forest wood and then carrying it with a pickup covered with elephant grass to trick the forestry officers", said Sudartawan.
