PKS Politician Warns Jokowi About 3 Period Issues
JAKARTA - Politician from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Mardani Ali Sera warned President Joko Widodo to be careful in responding to the issue of changing the presidential term in the amendments to the 1945 Constitution. Especially, against the efforts of those who wish to impose it on 3 terms.
Although, said Mardani, Jokowi had already emphasized that it would not be possible to go forward again in the 2024 presidential election. However, according to him, there could be parties who seek face to face with Jokowi so that they agree on 3 terms.
"Pak @jokowi has stated that in 2019 it is impossible, but be careful with those who want to take the face of / threaten Pak Jokowi. Let's protect our constitution, only 2 periods for the president," said Mardani on the @MardaniAliSera Twitter account. which was quoted on Tuesday, March 16.
Mardani assessed that a 3-term presidential term could endanger or even kill democracy in Indonesia.
"Regarding the 3-term presidency, this is dangerous. The public and all of us are obliged to guard against movements, ideas, ideas of a 3-term president because they conflict with reform and can make our democracy die," he said.
For this reason, Mardani asked all parties to reject the discourse of the 3-term president for the sake of healthy democracy.
Previously, President Jokowi stressed that he had no intention of serving as president for three terms. This is in accordance with the 1945 Constitution which stipulates that the term of office of the president is two terms and must be obeyed together.
