TNGR: Land Fires In Mount Rinjani Area Triggered By Hot Weather

The Gunung Rinjani National Park Center (TNGR), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, stated that the land fire that occurred in the Mount Rinjani area, precisely on the hiking trail through Aik Berik, Central Lombok, was suspected to be due to the very hot weather.

"The land fire disaster in the Mount Rinjani area is thought to have been triggered by hot weather factors in the 2024 dry season," said Head of the National Park Management Section for Region 1Dwi Pangestu as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 19.

He said the location of the land fire was located at coordinates 08.42.44 South Latitude (LS) and 116°24'04.96 East Longitude (BT) with an estimated area of the burned area of about 31 hectares and the fire had been extinguished.

"The burning vegetation are grass, minang-alang, and Cemara Gunung," he said.

Previously, the TNGRNTB Center dispatched officers to check and extinguish land fires in the Mount Rinjani area on Monday (18/6).

"The team from the Aik Berik Resort this morning is preparing to go to the location of the fire or the location of the fire," said Forest Ecosystem Controller of the TNGR Balai Budi Soesmardi.

The fire occurred on Sunday (16/6) afternoon, after seeing hotspots or puffs of smoke from Segara Anak Lake. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained, because the team had not yet reached the location of the fire.

"The location is estimated on the Aik Berik climbing route, Central Lombok," he said.
