Gorontalo Prison Flooded, Prisoners' Rooms To Soak Clinics

JAKARTA - The Class IIA Penitentiary (Lapas) in Gorontalo City was flooded to a height of 50 centimeters aka cm after the rain that flushed the area for three hours on Wednesday, June 19 morning.

The Gorontalo Yarham Pantu Prison Penitentiary Security Unit (KPLP) said the flood inundated a number of guesthouses or residential rooms for Correctional Inmates (WBP), clinics, and prison offices.

"Some of the actions we took, directing the inmates to secure their belongings in residential guesthouses so as not to be flooded," Yarham said in Gorontalo, Wednesday, June 19, as reported by Antara.

He explained that various items belonging to the inmates in the flooded residential rooms had been moved and secured to a higher place so as not to be washed away.

"For inpatient rooms, they are not submerged in water, but the clinic is submerged. For electrical equipment and medicines and equipment, everything is safe," he said.

According to Yarham, flooding in prisons occurred due to drainage conditions in front of prisons that were unable to accommodate water or were clogged, coupled with high rainfall since the morning.

"This has resulted in water returning to the prison, which has resulted in flooding," he said.

Currently, continued Yarham, the WBP jointly drains flood water which is still in the office, residential guesthouse, and clinic.
