Only 15 Seconds Tribute To His Father, Wolfgang Van Halen Disappointed: There Is No Other Innovator Like Him
JAKARTA - The 2021 Grammy Awards ceremony which took place on Sunday, March 14th still leaves many questions. Most recently, the tribute moment displayed at the event.
In the In memoriam segment, several musicians are named, one of which is Eddie Van Halen, who died in 2020. However, this segment only shows a video of Eddie Van Halen playing the guitar for 15 seconds.
Many netizens were annoyed and asked why Eddie Van Halen did not get tribute appearances like Kenny Rogers, Little Richard, and John Prine considering that Eddie Van Halen had a big influence in the world of music.
Eddie's son Wolfgang speaks up today, Tuesday, March 16. He was asked by the Recording Academy to play the song Eruption, but he refused.
“I thought nothing could live up to what my dad did for music. I understand there is an In memoriam segment where several songs belonging to dead musicians are sung by the performers.
That night, Bruno Mars and Anderson. Paak sang songs from Little Richard, Lionel Richie with Kenny Rogers, Brandi Carlile with John Prine, and Brittany Howard with Marsden.
“I know rock is not the most popular genre right now but I thought it would be impossible to resist the legacy my father made to the world of rock, instrument, and music as a whole. There is no other innovator like him. "
Through this writing, Wolfgang also hopes that he can discuss with the Grammys not only about his father but also the rock genre in the future.
