Bekasi Proving Ground Development Progress, Minister Of Transportation Budi Karya: Already 50 Percent

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said the progress of the construction of the Bekasi Motor Vehicle Testing and Certification Center or Proving Ground has reached 50 percent.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Transportation after reviewing the proving ground project located at the Road & Motor Vehicle Certification Testing Center (BPLJSKB) Bekasi, West Java, Thursday, June 13.

"Today I review the progress of the proving ground which we will soft launch in September. Now the position is 50 percent, we hope that by that time (September) the President can conduct a soft launching," Budi said in an official statement, Thursday, June 13.

Furthermore, Budi also said that the construction of the Proving ground was still in accordance with the specified target.

"Technically it is still on schedule and KPBU has met the requirements so we hope that this experience can be carried out on our other projects," he said.

As is known, Proving Ground is an outdoor test facility in accordance with international standards that have adopted the United Nations Agreement Concerning The Adoption of Unform Conditions of Approval and Reciprocal Recognition of Application For Motor Vehicle Equipment and Parts (UN Agreement).

With the construction of the Bekasi BPLJSKB Proving Ground, the implementation of the type of test that has been carried out abroad can later be carried out in Indonesia.

Thus, the potential for vehicle exports from the Indonesian automotive industry will increase.

Bekasi's Proving Ground will be built starting in 2021 through a Government and Business Entity Cooperation (KPBU) scheme promoted by the Ministry of Transportation, which can produce more accurate motor vehicle type testing and meet international standards, thereby increasing aspects of motor vehicle safety.

In addition, it also supports Indonesia's commitment to control carbon emissions in vehicles, as well as reduce funding dependence from the state budget.

Later there will be around 16 testing facilities in accordance with the international standards of the United Nation Regulation (UNR) which are planned to be implemented in ASEAN countries that are members of the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Agreement.

Proving ground is also used as a research site for the development of the automotive industry.
