Hyundai And Kia Contribute 11 Percent Share Of EV Sales In The First Five Months Of 2024 In The US
Hyundai Motor Group has again obtained good results in the sale of electric vehicles in the United States (US). This achievement includes EV brands from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis.
Launching from InsideEVs, Wednesday, June 12, the South Korean group company has become the number two electric vehicle producer in 2023 and the first quarter of 2024 in Uncle Sam's country, only behind Tesla.
In the period between January and May 2024, EV sales growth from Hyundai and Kia reached 48,838 units or received an 11.2 percent share, compared to the total number of EV sales of 437,246 units in the US in this period. This is an excellent achievement for this ginseng country company in the US.
In the previous year, the group contributed 6.8 percent share in 2023, 10.6 percent in 2022, and 3.2 percent for 2020.
Meanwhile, EV manufacturers like Tesla contributed 51.7 percent share during the first five months of this year. However, this achievement is still less than in 2020 which reached 73.2 percent.
In addition, the EV segment of Hyundai and Kia cars accounts for almost 40 percent of all environmentally friendly models in the US. In 2020, the figure only reached 17.2 percent.
In the US market, Hyundai Motor Group sells a variety of models ranging from Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Kona Electric for the Hyundai brand. Meanwhile, the Kia brand has EV6, EV9, and Niro EV models. Then the Genesis brand sells the GV60, Electrified GV70, and Electrified G80 models.
In May, Hyundai managed to sell 5,548 units of electric cars based on the E-GMP platform in the United States, up 62 percent compared to the previous year. Hyundai's E-GMP electric car now accounts for 7.1 percent of total sales, up from 4.9 percent from May, 2023.
For the Kia brand, they managed to sell 7,197 units of environmentally friendly vehicles, up 127 percent, with 2,660 units of which were EV6 as their best-selling electric vehicle. Following EV6, EV9 models also got impressive results by reaching sales of 2,187 units in May 2024.
