Australian Open 2024: Hendra/Ahsan To The Second Round
JAKARTA - Men's doubles pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan confirmed themselves as the first representatives of Indonesia to qualify for the second round of the 2024 Australian Open.
The tournament's second seed extended their journey at the BWF Super 500 level by stopping the host's representative, Lukas Defolky/Ricky Tang, two straight games 21-14 and 21-12 at Quaycentre, Tuesday, June 11.
"Alhamdulillah, we were able to win today's match. Seeing the opponents here, we want to stay focused on one by one," Ahsan said after the match as in the statement received.
In the second round, the pair nicknamed The Daddies will meet the mixed pair between Australia and South Korea, Ting-Yuan Kuo/Lee Jae Sun.
The couple got tickets to the second half after dealing with steps from other Australian men's doubles, namely Badminton Lap-Chi Kwok/Michael Soon How Lim, in a two-game live match.
"To face the second half match, we still have to focus. We must not take the opponents we will face lightly," said Ahsan.
Hendra/Ahsan are the only Indonesian men's doubles to play in this tournament. They are also the only Red and White representatives who play on the first day of the tournament.
The two of them came there with two men's singles, three women's singles, one women's doubles, and two mixed doubles. Other Indonesian representatives will only play their first round on Wednesday, June 12 tomorrow.
The other eight Indonesian representatives who participated in this event were Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, Alwi Farhan, Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, Putri Kusuma Wardani, Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi, Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi, Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati, and Jafar Hidayatullah/Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata.
The Australian Open is the seventh tournament played by Hendra/Ahsan this year. The second half was their furthest step from all those appearances.
Prior to playing in Australia, The Daddies appeared at the Malaysia Open, French Open, All England, Thailand Open, Singapore Open, and Indonesia Open last week.
