Simpler, Netflix Update App Design For Television

JAKARTA Netflix will change the home view of the app version on television. This latest design under test will disappear a row of event tiles, films, or series into a long box containing previews. In addition to changing the main look of the app version for television, Netflix also highlights the information from various events or films seen inside the tiles. When the cursor is directed to one of the tiles, Netflix will play its preview briefly. Meanwhile, at the bottom of the tiles, users will see all the information about the show or film, ranging from the title, short synopsis, the year of its release, and the genre of its broadcast. Especially for the series or television shows, users will see the number of episodes. Senior Director of Netflix Product Pat Flemming told The Verge that Netflix wants to make it easier for its users. Through this design update, users can choose interesting events, films, or series quickly. "We want the members to have easier time to determine whether a title is suitable for them," says Flemming. "Regarding alone this as our first attempt, our best initial step, on what we consider as an extraordinary new TV experience." Not only changing its main appearance, Netflix also removes the menu from the left side and changes its options to simpler ones at the top of the screen. Users will see menus containing search, homes, events, films, and Netflix I. This new transformed menu has reduced several options in previous versions of the application, namely Category, New and Popular, as well as My List. Although removed from the new menu, the Category tab can still be found in Search tab. Flemming says that this latest design is being tested to a small fraction of users. If users give an enthusiastic response, Netflix will launch its design to more users in the coming months or quarters.
