1,115 Hindu Prisoners Receive Remission, The Government Saves Rp. 500 Million In Budget

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) has provided a special remission (RK) for Nyepi Day of 2021 for 1,115 Hindu convicts.

In the official broadcast received by VOI, these RKs were spread all over Indonesia. Namely consisting of 1,113 prisoners who received RK I or a partial reduction with details 213 received a remission of 15 days, 764 prisoners received a remission of one month, 116 prisoners received a remission of 1 month 15 days and 20 prisoners received a remission of two months.

"Meanwhile, 2 prisoners received RK II or immediately released after receiving a 15-day remission," said the Director General of Corrections, Reynhard Silitonga, Saturday, March 13.

He explained that the remission proposals from various regions in Indonesia were made online through the Correctional Database System (SDP).

"Apart from being a form of state presence to give appreciation and attention to prisoners, the remission is expected to motivate inmates to become better human beings and continue to behave according to the rules in their daily life," explained Reynhard.

The Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights contributed the highest number of prisoners receiving remissions with 768 prisoners, followed by the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Central Kalimantan with 82 prisoners and 51 inmates of the South Sulawesi Kemenkumham Regional Office.

Reynhard also ensured that even though he was still in the Coronavirus Disesase (COVID-19) pandemic condition, the rights-giving service continued as usual and the recipient of the remission had fulfilled the administrative and substantive requirements according to the applicable regulations. Likewise, the process of proposing remissions online is carried out quickly, precisely, and easily.

"SDP is one of our ways to provide legal certainty in fulfilling the rights of prisoners. Through the SDP, prisoners and their families can directly examine the remission proposal process with only their fingerprints free of charge, "said Reynhard.

Until March 5, 2021, the number of Correctional Assistance Citizens in Indonesia has reached 253,356 people consisting of 204,085 prisoners and 49,271 prisoners. The provision of RK for Nyepi Day this year succeeded in saving the state budget up to IDR 553,605,000 with an average meal cost per day of IDR 17,000 per person.

Remission is a reduction in serving a sentence given to inmates and children who meet the requirements stipulated in the statutory regulations. Regulations regarding the granting of remissions are contained in Republic of Indonesia Law Number 12 of 1995 concerning Corrections, Government Regulation (PP) Number 32 of 1999 concerning Requirements and Procedures for the Implementation of WBP Rights, First Amendment: PP RI No. 28 of 2006, Second Amendment: PP RI Number 99 of 2012, Presidential Decree No. 174 of 1999 concerning Remissions, as well as Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number 3 of 2018 concerning Granting of Remissions to WBP.
