Jadi Pusat Pengenjaran IKN, Jokowi Inaugurates Fasilitas Peremaian Mentawir

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Mentawir, Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan Province, as the center for the reforestation program for the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN) and its surroundings.

"I am happy, after almost 1.5 years the Mentawir nurse has been completed today, and with a capacity of 15 million of these seeds we will be able to use to rehabilitate the forest again," said President Jokowi during a speech at the inauguration of the Minister of Tourism's nursery followed by the Presidential Secretariat network in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 4.

The President said that the nursery facility, which is equipped with a nutfah plasma center in the form of a bio bank and a seed bank, is the main component that has been prepared by the government since the beginning of the IKN development.

Bibit, which grows in the facility, said the President, is useful for nurseries in the context of forest rehabilitation, through replanting trees in a number of former mine locations.

"We can do that if we have a big nurse. Don't let us often plant a million trees, plant a million trees everywhere, but the milksery doesn't exist, the nursens don't exist, where do they come from?," he said.

Jokowi said that the Mentawir nurseries have 15 million plant seeds, including a number of endemic plants in Kalimantan, such as tusungkai, meranti, limestone, tengkawang, ulin, and bangkirai.

In addition, there are also Jambu-jambuan seeds that will be planted at several points for animal food. "So that later some animals that used to have decreased or not exist, become existing," he said.

To support the animal ecosystem, Mentawir's nurseries also have breeding facilities that carry the concept of "babies" so that the population of animals that are starting to decrease can return to balance.

"Students that are starting to decrease greatly, are also already there. Which later can be used for baby tubes of animals that are no longer available," he said.

Jokowi said that sperm storage equipment for the benefit of baby animal cylinders is already available at the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB).

"I'm happy, the goods are already in IPB, some of them will be enriched again if they become the center of nutfah plasma and that's what we have wanted for a long time, and we hope that it really exists now," he said.
