Member Of Commission V DPR Asks For A Thorough Evaluation Of Bus Fatalities In Sumedang

JAKARTA - Member of Commission V DPR Toriq Hidayat urged a thorough evaluation of the PO Sri Padma Kencana tourism bus accident case in Wado District, Sumedang, West Java.

"A total of 27 people died and 39 people survived," said Toriq in his speech in Jakarta, Friday, March 12.

Toriq admitted that he was concerned about the accident. He explained that the road where the disaster occurred was a connecting access between Garut Regency and Sumedang Regency, the condition of the road was downhill, and was not equipped with public street lighting (PJU).

Therefore, Toriq hopes that the police will immediately investigate the cause of the accident. This is so as not to become speculation in the community.

This incident, he said, should also be an evaluation for the government to pay attention to the lighting of streets that are at risk of accidents.

"Do not let the street lighting be fulfilled after the accident. This evaluation is very important," he said.

Previously, Commission V DPR encouraged the government to immediately strengthen the National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) in terms of institutions, budgets, investigator human resources, and facilities and infrastructure.

He assessed that PP No. 62 of 2013 concerning Transportation Accident Investigation is also still weak. In addition, from an institutional perspective, the NTSC is not an independent organization.

Commission V alludes to Article 3 of Presidential Decree No. 2 of 2012 on the NTSC. NTSC is a non-structural institution that is under and responsible to the President, but according to Article 9, in carrying out its duties, NTSC is coordinated by the Minister of Transportation.

Previously, the police said that 29 people died as a result of a deadly bus accident entering a ravine in Sumedang.

"The death toll has increased. In total, 29 people have died to date, "said Director of Traffic of the West Java Regional Police, Kombes Eddy Djunaedi.

Eddy said the two victims died, namely Mamah and Euis. They died after undergoing medical treatment.

"Both died in hospital. They were treated at Sumedang Hospital," he said.
