Aubameyang Opens Bitter Stories At Arsenal

JAKARTA - "I started drinking a lot (alcohol, ed.). I was depressed," said Aubameyang when telling him about leaving Arsenal.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admitted to being depressed before leaving Arsenal. This condition began when he was removed from the captain position by Mikel Arteta in December 2021.

The removal was the aftermath of Aubameyang's delay in returning to the club after going to France to accompany her mother who was suffering from a stroke.

Aubameyang then never played for Arsenal again. He was dropped from the first team.

Since then, his lifestyle has changed drastically. The Gabon national team player has completely dropped out of the line for an athlete due to depression.

He had tough days ago a few months before leaving the Emirates. Not to mention he had to think about his mother.

"I believe I am depressed. There is a very different attitude from your daily life."

"For example, I started drinking a lot. It was a difficult journey. It started before I was fired from Arsenal."

"So yes, it's depression. I think personally, it's related to the health condition of my parents. It affects men, it's difficult."

"How does it come out? Often we say that we have to talk about it, there's nothing wrong with it," Aubameyang said when speaking on Colinterview's YouTube on the Oh My Goal show.

Arteta Was Furious

Aubameyang last played for Arsenal on December 6, 2021. He came down as a substitute in the 1-2 defeat to Everton.

The appearance closed 163 matches with the Gunners since coming to the Emirates on January 31, 2018.

Long story short, after the appearance against Everton - which at first he didn't know would be the last match - Aubameyang returned to France to visit his mother.

He actually got permission from Arteta considering that his mother had suffered a stroke for several months.

Aubameyang is actually less than 24 hours late. He is scheduled to arrive at Arsenal headquarters at night, but he can only go home the next morning.

"I'm going home. Usually I'm supposed to go back at night instead of in the morning during training."

"My mother has a test to complete, I can't go at night. So, I left the next morning on training day."

"Arriving there, I had to take the test, but actually I had to do it the day before because I came from another country."

"I arrived, the coach finished his meeting. Then he really cried. He screamed at me like I was crazy, 'You put a knife on my back. You can't do that for me remembering the times we went through'."

"At that time I said to myself that I would not answer because it would end in anger."

"I didn't go to parties. He knew very well the reason for my departure. So, at that time I didn't understand why he lectured me like this," said Aubameyang.

After the one-on-one meeting, Aubameyang revealed that Arteta did not want him to join the team. He has to train alone.

Next, shocking news came that he lost his captain's armband. Arteta removed the main captain's armband from Aubameyang during a meeting on his birthday.

During the conversation, Aubameyang learned that he would no longer work with any other team members. He already thought his time at Arsenal was over.

Two months later, he left the club. On February 2, 2022, Aubameyang officially left the Gunners to join Barcelona after his contract was terminated.

After six months of success with Barca (18 appearances and 11 goals), he returned to the Premier League with Chelsea.

However, he did not get a long contract at Stamford Bridge. Finally, he had to return to find a new port.

Marseille will be the following house on July 21, 2023. He was awarded a three-year contract.

In the Ligue 1 2023/2024 season, Aubameyang has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season.
