RI Is In The Middle Of A Trial Of Crude Oil To Become An Avtur

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed that Indonesia is conducting trials of avtur fuel from rantah oil which has already been carried out by other countries such as Malaysia and Singapore.

Luhut said Indonesia has a potential supply of 1 million liters of oil per year, of which 95 percent are exported to several countries.

"Based on IATA data, Indonesia is predicted to become the fourth largest aviation market in the world in the next few decades," Luhut said in an upload on his Instagram account quoted on Thursday, May 30.

Thus, Luhut also mentioned that the assumption that fuel will be needed in the future will reach 7,500 tons of liters by 2030.

For this reason, he said, Pertamina as a leader in the energy transition field has carried out a successful static trial from SAF, for use on the CFM56-7B jet engine.

"This proves that their products are suitable for use on commercial aircraft," Luhut continued.

Through this innovation, Luhut said that he wanted economic value to be created through the production capacity of Pertamina's biofuel refineries, the estimated domestic and export SAF sales could create profits of more than IDR 12 trillion per year.

"In addition, the development of the SAF industry will also be an entry point for investment in further biofuel refineries from the private sector and SOEs," he said.

Luhut said, as aviation activity increases, the carbon emissions produced will also continue to grow.

Therefore, intervention to reduce carbon emissions is important.

He said that the government is currently promoting Presidential Regulations to support the development of SAF in Indonesia.

"I am targeting that after the issuance of the Presidential Regulation, we can launch the legal umbrella no later than next September's @baliairshow," concluded Luhut.
