4 People Died As A Result Of Landslides In Arfak Papua

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that one person survived and four people died in a landslide disaster in Arfak Mountains Regency, West Papua.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that one survivor is currently being treated at Warmare Hospital.

The BNPB Pusdalops confirmed that the survivors were found by a joint SAR officer team moments after the Manyambou Distik was hit by a landslide on Sunday (26/5), and at the same time two victims died.

Then, in the process of searching for the second day, on Monday (27/5) at 15.00 WIB, the joint team again found two more victims dead.

"The search process was excavated using heavy excavator equipment at the landslide site. Thus, a total of four people died as a result of this incident," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 28.

Upon the discovery of the five victims, he said, the search operation carried out by a joint team of officers, Basarnas, BPBD, TNI/Polri was declared closed.

However, the joint SAR team is still at the location to make efforts to accelerate handling and anticipate the potential for further landslides, as predicted by the BMKG weather in the Arfak Mountains Regency, which still has the potential to rain for the next two days.
