President Jokowi At UNS's Anniversary: The COVID-19 Pandemic Teach Us To Break The Old Way

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the COVID-19 pandemic has taught people to change from old ways to new ones based on digitization. In fact, digitization in several institutions used to be difficult to enforce.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us to break through old ways, which were once considered taboo, are now a new way of life. Digitalization, which was difficult to introduce, now all institutions have to do it", said Jokowi while giving a speech online in a statement. Senate open session for the 46th Anniversary of Sebelas Maret University (UNS), Friday, 12 March.

As a result of the pandemic, new performance and work programs must be introduced. Including changing the way of budgeting.

Furthermore, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta also mentioned the drastic changes in the labor market. He said, there are many types of old jobs that have been lost, which are no longer needed so that changes in study programs, curriculum changes are needed, and changes in the character of lecturers are needed.

Not only that, the fourth volume of the industrial revolution has made a lot of old science and technology obsolete. "Management theory, organization, and business models have also changed a lot. Communication patterns and people's behavior have also changed a lot", he stressed.

These new things should be able to be adapted by UNS. Because he understands that this change is certainly not easy for an institution that is 45 years old.

"It is not easy to disrupt ourselves, even though if we do not dare to disrupt ourselves, we will be disrupted by an era that is changing rapidly", said Jokowi.

So that, in the future, UNS can adapt to prepare big changes in the scientific field for the sake of humanity and the progress of the nation. "UNS for 45 years is currently being challenged to change", he said.

"Congratulations on creating and innovating in producing science and technology and producing talents to answer the challenges of humanity and the progress of the nation, for the sake of an advanced Indonesia that we aspire to", he concluded.
