KPK Asked To Appeal For The Sentence Of Former MA Secretary Nurhadi, ICW: Deserves To Be Sentenced For Life
JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher Kurnia Ramadhana has asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to appeal against the judge's decision in the case of former Supreme Court Secretary Nurhadi.
He considered that the verdict should have been tougher. If necessary, Nurhadi was sentenced to life for his actions of accepting bribes and gratuities during his tenure.
"Supposedly with the crimes committed by Nurhadi, including turning a legal case into a corruption case, he is very worthy to be sentenced to life imprisonment, a fine of IDR 1 billion, and all assets resulting from crimes that he controls are confiscated for the state", said Kurnia in his written statement to journalists, Friday, March 12.
The sentence of six years in prison, continued Kurnia, was considered very light, hurt justice, and seemed to side with the suspect. Moreover, Nurhadi was also considered to undermine the authority of the Supreme Court, was not cooperative because he had become a fugitive, and beat prison officials when he was arrested.
Not only that, Nurhadi has not acknowledged his acts of corruption. In fact, the facts in the trial showed otherwise, he received billions of rupiah from Hiendra Soenjoto.
Thus, the verdict made ICW disagree when hearing the considerations of mitigation read out by the judge. "How can a perpetrator of corruption be said to have contributed to the advancement of the Supreme Court? Isn't the crime he committed tarnishing the face of the Supreme Court", said Kurnia.
"However, it seems that strange considerations like this have become commonplace in many trials", he continued.
So, for these various reasons, ICW urged the KPK to file an appeal. This needs to be done so that the verdict handed down by the judge at the first level is immediately overturned.
This needs to be done because the verdict handed down against Nurhadi could keep the judicial mafia in action and not deter him.
"Apart from that, the KPK must also immediately issue two investigation warrants. First, an investigation into the alleged money laundering crime committed by Nurhadi. Second, investigations related to obstruction of justice, especially for parties who have been protecting or hiding Nurhadi at this time. he ran away", he insisted.
Previously reported, Former Secretary of the Supreme Court Nurhadi and his son-in-law, Rezky Herbiyono, were sentenced to 6 years in prison and a fine of IDR 500 million, a subsidiary of 3 months.
Nurhadi stated that he was proven to have received bribes amounting to IDR 35,726 billion and gratuities from several parties amounting to IDR 13,787 billion.
The verdict was lower than the demands of the KPK public prosecutor (JPU) who asked Nurhadi to be sentenced to 12 years in prison plus a fine of IDR 1 billion, a subsidiary of 6 months in prison, while his son-in-law, Rezky Herbiyono, was charged with 11 years in prison plus a fine of IDR 1 billion, a subsidiary of 6 months in prison.
