Twitter Spaces Service Will Be Released Globally Next April

JAKARTA - Twitter Inc. targets the Spaces feature to be available to all users in April. Prior to that the platform with the blue bird logo would have expanded the testing aspects of the Spaces service.

The spokesperson for the micro-blogging site said that Spaces, which has been on Twitter since December last year, was a live chat room in audio format launched on Friday, March 12.

Initially, Spaces was tested on iOS users first. But now this feature can be used on Android devices.

Spaces offers a different conversational experience on Twitter, as they are presented in a voice format. The existence of Spaces is expected to make users more intimate and emotional in establishing conversations.

Users can follow ongoing discussions in Spaces by clicking on the purple circle in the Fleet row of the Twitter application. Apart from clicking Fleet, users can also join the Spaces chat room via the shared link.

Twitter enables the emoji feature, captions in Spaces, other users can also be invited to speak in the discussion. Users can see who has joined the discussion room and give a title to the discussion room.

Record Spaces Conversations

So far, many users have tried the Spaces service. It's just that not a few of them cannot save the conversations that have been carried out through Spaces.

Twitter's head of consumer products, Kayvon Beykpour, said that the company is studying ways to record user conversations on Speaces.

“If you think the conversation is worth replaying, you should be able to do it. I am personally a little bit more optimistic in two ways, "he said as quoted by The Verge.

He noted that the idea of recording and sharing clips becomes more complicated when participants want to share audio without the explicit consent of the emcee. "One, obviously the hosts need to be able to save it and do whatever they want. Maybe you host Space, save it, then want to edit it."

Currently, Twitter records conversations and stores them for 30 days, but only for moderation purposes. The hosts can download the data as long as Twitter has it, as well as a transcription copy.

Twitter doesn't appear to want to closely align Spaces with the podcasting ecosystem, but the team realized that people wanted their conversations to be maintained and distributed outside of Twitter itself.
