Aleix Espargaro Will Start Leading At MotoGP Catalunya 2024
Aleix Espargaro has managed to secure pole position for the 2024 Catalunya MotoGP race at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
Espargaro, who two days ago announced his retirement from MotoGP at the end of this season, took a break. He became fastest in qualifying sessions on Saturday, May 25, 2024 with a time of 1 minute 38.190 seconds.
The Aprilia Racing racer is narrowly ahead of defending champion Francesco Bagnaia (+0.031) who is in second place. Then, Raul Fernandez completed the start on the front grid perched in third position (+0.071).

The record continues Espargaro's impressive performance after becoming the fastest in the Free Practice 2 (FP2) and Free Practice 3 (FP3) sessions.
This is Espargaro's sixth pole in MotoGP and the second pole in his last three editions at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit after 2022.
In the 2023 edition, he won the Sprint Race and the main race started from the second grid.
Meanwhile, Brad Binder's fourth position was followed by Pedro Acosta in fifth position.
Jorge Martin, who leads the standings, had to settle for starting from the seventh grid. In fact, he had become the fastest on Free Practice 1 (FP1).
Marc Marquez received an unfavorable fate. The Gresini Racing racer started the race from the 14th grid.
