Did The Prophet Muhammad Ever Pray Before The Isra Mi'raj Incident?
JAKARTA - Muslims celebrate Isra Mi'raj on Thursday, March 11. In the history of Islamic culture, this is one of the important events that the Prophet Muhammad saw went through. as the Messenger of Allah SWT.
Isra Mi'raj gives a lot of wisdom and lessons for Muslims. On this occasion, Allah SWT showed His greatness as narrated in Surat Al-Isra verse one which means: "Glory be to Allah, who has traveled His servant one night from Al Masjid al-Haram to Al Masjid al-Aqsa which We have blessed around him so that We show him of Our signs: for He is the Hearer, the Knower.
In the hadith narrated by Muslim, the command to pray five times also came down during the event of Isra Mi'raj. The five daily prayers are obtained after several discounts from Allah SWT to relieve His servants.
Finally, the Prophet Muhammad received the revelation of obligatory prayer five days a day at the event of Isra Mi'raj. So, did the Prophet Muhammad never pray before the event?
Quoted from the book M. Quraish Shihab Answering 1001 Islamic Questions That You Should Know page 58, the obligation of praying 5 times was set by Allah when the Prophet performed the Mi'raj.
However, this does not mean that he did not perform the prayer before the event. If we open surah al, 'Alaq, then we find verses 9-10 which means: "What do you think of the person who forbids a servant when he performs prayers?"
The scholars agree that a forbidden servant is Rasulullah saw. and the one who forbade it was Abu Jahal. This prohibition is agreed to have occurred at the beginning of the prophetic period and before the events of Mi'raj.
Indeed, as said by the Prophet saw., "There is no good in a religion without prayers." Therefore, it can be confirmed that, before Isra Mi'raj, the Prophet had performed prayers. However, the scholars state that in the beginning the prayers at that time were, to a lesser extent, different from the prayers we know today.
