Abarth 208 A Spyder By Boano 1955 Auctioned At RM Sotheby's

JAKARTA - RM Sotheby's is auctioning off a rare car that attracted attention, namely Abarth 208 A Spyder by Boano. This car was made in 1955 and is one example of the golden age of car design with the style "Stile Transatlantico".

Based on information on the auction house, quoted on May 20, the Transatlantico34 style is to combine the best elements of American and Italian car designs. The distinctive features of American cars in the 1950s characterized the use of large back fins and striking two-tone paint colors.

Abart 208 A Spyder by Boano was designed by Giovanni Michelotti for the company Boano. Abarth hopes that this car can attract the attention of the United States market. But technically, this car still relies on typical Italian performance with light weight, small but powerful engines, and precise handling.

The engine used comes from Fiat 1100, which is a 4-cylindrical 1.089 cc engine. The engine is upgraded using Abarth parts in the form of double Weber carbourizers and custom headers, resulting in 66 bhp of power.

Interestingly, this car is known to have been owned by the DuPont family, a chemical conglomerate from the United States. After that the car changed hands to several other owners and had been hidden from the public for years.

Abart 208 A Spyder by Boano was rediscovered in 2007 and partially restored to restore its engine performance. However, the authenticity of this car is maintained so that it makes it even more special.

This car was exhibited at Amelia Island Concourses d'Elegance in 2013. Recently, Abart 208 A Spyder by Boano was repainted in real color in Italy at a cost of more than 30,000 euros or the equivalent of Rp520 million.

Abarth 208 A Spyder by Boano is an important part of Abarth's history and an icon of the era of French Transatlantico. This car is predicted to be the target of collectors around the world.

The auction minimum price was not announced because this was auctioned by the RM Sotheby's Private Sales division.
