Head Of BNPB Directs Residents Of West Sumatra Flash Flood Victims To Be Relocated
Head of the National Disaster Management Agency, Lt. Gen. Suharyanto, gave directions so that residents affected by the flash flood and cold lava of Mount Marapi were willing to be relocated.
"The government is ready if the community is willing to be relocated or moved to a safe area. This is the best step to avoid possible aftershocks," he said in a coordination meeting on strategic steps with disaster-affected residents in Agam Regency as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 15.
Suharyanto asked all levels of government in West Sumatra to communicate actively to community leaders in disaster-prone areas.
"Asked directly to community leaders, looking for land to move. Especially in Bukit Batabuah, Agam Regency is still relatively small for relocation," he said.

According to him, relocation steps are important for the sake of their children and grandchildren rather than later they are threatened with becoming victims if a disaster occurs.
BNPB gave an example of the Mount Ruang eruption disaster, North Sulawesi with hundreds of residents who were eventually relocated.
"Even the relocation is between the two regencies. There are more than 300 residents who have been moved to their homes in safe areas," said Suharyanto.
