The 5.5 Magnitude Earthquake in Sumbawa, NTB Was Felt in Denpasar, Bali

JAKARTA - An earthquake measuring 5.5 magnitude that rocked Sumbawa or around 15 kilometers southwest of North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) was felt in Denpasar, Bali.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Denpasar, Bali, recorded that the earthquake tremors were centered at coordinates 8.40 south latitude (LS) and 116.03 east longitude (BT).

The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers which occurred at 16.11 p.m. Central Indonesian Time (WITA) or 15.11 p.m. Eastern Indonesian Time (WIT).

Meanwhile, the earthquake vibrations that occurred in Denpasar occurred for a short duration, namely around two to three seconds.

A number of employees and customers at a bank in the Renon area, Denpasar also felt the earthquake vibrations.

However, there was no excessive panic and no temporary suspension of work routines.

"The vibration was quite felt because I was on the second floor and I wanted to leave the room but in the end, I didn't because the situation returned to normal," said one bank customer, Maya in Renon, Denpasar, quoted by ANTARA.

BMKG confirmed that the earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami.
