Mubadala Energy Finds Second Gas Field In South Andaman Block
JAKARTA - The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) and Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) Mubadala Energy announced the discovery of other large gas from marine exploration wells in Tangkulo-1.
This well is drilled in the South Andaman Block, which is located around 65-kilometer offshore in the northern part of Sumatra Island, Indonesia.
This discovery marks the second deep sea well operated by Mubadala Energy. The Tangkulo-1 well is drilled to a depth of 3,400 meters at a sea depth of 1,200 meters, just months after a major discovery in the Screen-1 well, which is still in South Andaman Block.
Approximately 80-meter gas column found in quality reservoir Oligocene sandstone in Tangkulo-1 wells that have been confirmed through data collection during drilling, including obtaining 72-meter full core, wireline logging, sidewall core, pressure and fluid samples.
By utilizing the latest Dril Stem Test (DST) design, the Tangkulo-1 well successfully flows 47 mmscf/d of quality gas and 1,300 barrels of condensate. Although the test results are limited due to available facilities, the well capacity is estimated to reach 80-100 mmscf/d and more than 2,000 barrels of condensate.
Head of SKK Migas, Dwi Soetjipto expressed his appreciation for the success of Mubadala Energy through the discovery of the potential of more than 2 TCF gas in place in Tangkulo-1.
On behalf of SKK Migas, I give my appreciation for the success of Mubadala Energy which again found gas potential in South Andaman, after previously finding gas through the Screen-1 well last year with a potential of 6 TCF gas in place, so that the potential in South Andaman currently reaches around 8 TCF gas in place. This provides a positive boost for SKK Migas and Upstream Oil and Gas Industry in supporting national energy security," said Dwi, Monday, May 13.
Dwi further said that this discovery also emphasized the huge potential in Andaman and hoped that other KKKS, which are currently operators in other blocks in Andaman, would carry out aggressive exploration as did Mubadala Energy.
Dwi said support from all stakeholders and also hopes for the readiness of the midstream and downstream industries to fully utilize gas production in the blocks in Andaman in the future.
Mubadala Energy Mansor CEO Mohammed Al Hamed said, with the recent addition of Mubadala success at the Screen-1 well, the discovery of these games promises the transformation of the energy landscape of Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

"This shows that the South Andaman Block is one of the promising energy plays in the world. By working with partners and mobilizing global technical capabilities, I believe that we can realize the full potential of this block, in line with our commitment to support development timeframe from the government," explained Mansor.
With 80 percent working interest in the South Andaman Block, Mubadala Energy is the largest net area holder in the offshore region north of Sumatra Island.
In line with the gas-based company's strategy, the Tangkulo-1 well is an important pillar in the narrative of our series of developments, where these discoveries open up more potential in the southern part of the South Andaman Block and indicate additional multi-TCF of prospective gas resources in surrounding structures.
Together with the Screen-1 well, this discovery adds to the volume of contingent reserves and provides media for Mubadala Energy to continue organic growth in the region through further exploration and appraisal activities.
