Ministry Of Transportation Suspects Bus Accident In Subang Due To Blong Brakes

The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) stated that the incident of a tourism bus carrying a group of students at SMK Lingga Kencana Depok had an accident in the Ciater area, Subang, West Java, on Saturday, May 11, 2024, allegedly due to a failed brake.

"The accident is suspected to be due to a failed brake on the bus," said Head of the Legal and Public Relations Section of the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Aznal, in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, May 11, 2024, evening WIB, as reported by Antara.

According to the chronology, when the Trans Putera Fajar bus with the AD 7524 OG police number carrying a group of students from Lingga Kencana Depok was heading from Bandung to Subang, we suddenly swerved to the right.

Then, the bus hit a motorcycle in the opposite lane and the shoulder of the road so that the bus rolled over.

Aznal revealed that the unfortunate incident occurred at 18.45 WIB.

He further revealed that the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation had coordinated with the police to continue conducting in-depth investigations related to the accident.

So far, the number of victims reported by the Subang Health Service is 60 people. A total of 11 people were reported to have died, 27 people were seriously injured, and 13 people were slightly injured. The victims were rushed to several health facilities, including Ciereng Hospital, Hamori Hospital, Jalancagak Health Center, Palasari Health Center, PTPN Subang Hospital, and Mitra Medika Tammbakan Hospital.

"The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation expressed his concern and condolences for the Trans Putera Fajar bus accident in Ciater, Subang, West Java," said Aznal.

The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation also appealed to all autobus companies (PO) and drivers to periodically check the condition of the fleet and register transportation permits and routinely carry out periodic vehicle tests.

In addition, it is appealed to all people who use public bus transportation to check the feasibility of vehicles before departure on the Land Partner application which can be downloaded on a smartphone.

Meanwhile, Aznal stated that at this time his party could not confirm the number of casualties or injuries due to the unfortunate incident because the evacuation process was still ongoing.

"In this incident, the number of fatalities and injuries cannot be ascertained because they are still in the evacuation process," said Aznal.
