Minister Basuki Inaugurates Yogyakarta's UGM Geological Field Station Worth IDR 13.8 Billion

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, together with the Head of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency, Dwikorita Karnawati, inaugurated the Geological Field Station Prof. R. Soeroso Notohadiprawiro, Gadjah Mada University in Bayat District, Klaten Regency, Central Java, on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

The support for the facilities and infrastructure of geological engineering sciences costs IDR 13.8 billion. The presence of the UGM Geological Field Station is an effort to improve the quality of superior human resources (HR) which is President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) vision with Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.

"I hope that the construction of this better teaching and learning infrastructure can improve the quality of education and the learning environment."

"So, it can create superior human resources to build Indonesia which is also able to compete in the international arena," said Basuki in a written statement received by VOI, Saturday, May 11, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Java Region Settlement Infrastructure Center, Kuswara, said that the construction of the UGM Geological Field Station was carried out by the Ministry of PUPR in a multi-year manner (MYC) through the Central Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) from 2023 to 2024.

"The construction work of the UGM Geological Field Station includes structural, architectural, mechanical and plumbing work, electrical, and landscapes sourced from APBN funds worth Rp. 13.8 billion," he said.

The construction of the UGM Geological Field Station in Bayat, Klaten, coincides with the construction of the UGM Geological Field Campus in Karangsambung with the Implementing Contractors PT Nindya Karya and PT Ciara Expertindo Consultant-PT Gapssary Mitra Kreasi-CV Polaris (KSO) as construction management.

Kuswara added that the UGM Geological Field Station was built on an area of 4,100 square meters with a building area of 1,895 square meters.

In the new building, three floors were built with each floor having different functions, namely the 1st floor with an area of 537 square meters (open space), the 2nd floor with an area of 423 square meters (pustration and laboratory), and the 3rd floor with an area of 423 square meters (learning room) and equipped with a supporting building covering an area of 512 square meters.

"In addition to facilities and infrastructure to support geological engineering education, the UGM Geological Field Station is also equipped with prayer facilities, toilets, accessibility, landscapes, including furniture to support teaching and learning activities," he said.

In addition, the building is also equipped with a solar power plant utilizing 20 solar panels on grid systems, which is sufficient for the use of electricity during the day.

Deputy Chancellor of UGM for Education, Wening Udasmono, expressed his gratitude for the construction of the UGM Geological Field Station which is equipped with various complete facilities.

"The construction of the UGM Geological Field Station is expected to be useful for the community and students who also dedicate geological science. In this area there are still many extraordinary old sites and rocks," he said.
