300 North Morowali Residents Affected By Floods

MOROWALI - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Sulawesi Province (Sulteng) stated that as many as 300 people of North Morowali were affected by the flood.

"Based on the reports we received, there were 300 people in Onepute Village, West Petasia District who were affected by this flood incident," said Head of BPBD Central Sulawesi Province Akris Fattah Yunus as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, May 11.

He explained that the flood incident occurred at around 17.00 WITA on Friday (10/5), due to the high intensity of rainfall since Thursday (9/5) causing the Laa River to overflow again and inundate residential areas.

Currently, the North Morowali BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC) is still conducting assessments at the flood site and monitoring the water level.

Based on the results of coordination with the North Morowali BPBD, a number of urgent needs are needed at this time, namely basic necessities, baby equipment, making gabions, and repairing village roads.

The construction of gabions is needed to prevent river water from overflowing, because the current situation is still increasing.
