Entered The Hospital Because Of Kidney Disease, Prisoners In Kupang Escaped

JAKARTA - An inmate from the Kupang Class IIB State Detention Center (Rutan) named Joao Da Costa (32) escaped during a medical examination at Siloam Hospital, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara.

"Yes, the prisoner indeed escaped during a medical examination at Siloam Hospital because he was suffering from acute kidney disease", said Head of Class IIB Kupang detention center Mohamad Rizal Fuadi, quoted by Antara in Kupang, Tuesday, March 9.

Joao Da Costa is a prisoner whose prison term is 10 years. Currently, the remaining sentence is 8 years and 10 months.

The incident began when a health worker from the Class IIB Kupang prison with Joao went to Siloam Hospital to register.

When the health workers registered for the queue number, Joao was left in the waiting room chair.

However, when the health worker finished registering and wanted to confirm with Joao, he saw that Joao had disappeared from his seat and left his luggage.

"He has also been designated as a DPO (Data Protection Officer) by the NTT Ministry of Law and Security and the police", he said.

Rizal said that his party had coordinated with the Kupang City Police by sending the data of the escaped prisoners.

Joao had indeed been often out of the hospital because of his kidney disease.

Before undergoing a medical examination at Siloam Hospital, Joao was known to have been an inpatient at Bhayangkara Hospital, Kupang then was referred to Siloam Hospital.

Based on the latest laboratory examination, it was found that Joao's albumin was very low, so it was necessary to immediately administer albumin by being hospitalized.

"The X-rays also showed that Joao's lungs were dirty and indicated COVID-19", he said.

Rizal said that his party would continue to search for Joao by deploying a team that had been formed together with the police and related parties.
