Jokowi Ensures Government Builds Wells To Anticipate Drought

KARAWANG - The government built pump wells at a number of crucial agricultural land points as a mitigation measure against rice crop failure caused by the dry season.

The statement was made by President Jokowi after reviewing the fluctuations in food prices at Pasar Baru Karawang, West Java, Wednesday, May 8.

"In the dry season, we build pump wells at points that we have calculated will lack water, especially with regard to agriculture, rice," he said in an interview session reported by ANTARA.

According to President Jokowi, rice stocks in the warehouse of the Logistics Affairs Agency (Bulog) reached 1.6 million tons. This number increased from the previous inventory of around 1.2 million tons.

During his visit to the Karawang New Market, the President reviewed the fluctuations in rice prices which he said were in good condition.

"Many rice has exploded at a price of Rp. 12 thousand to Rp. 13 thousand. The price is good," he said.

The President said the availability of rice will continue to be maintained by the government throughout the dry season this year through drought mitigation measures on agricultural land.

"The construction of pump wells has begun by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing," he said.
