Jonathan Christie Wins In 16 Untuned Matches

JAKARTA Indonesian men's singles badminton player, Jonatan Christie, recorded 16 consecutive wins starting from the All England 2024 event in March 2024 until the 2024 Thomas Cup final match.

Jonathan was the only Indonesian player to successfully contribute points when the 2024 Thomas Cup team lost 1-3 against China in the final match in Chengdu, China, Sunday, May 5, 2024.

During this men's team event, Jonathan recorded a total of six wins. He started by defeating Nadiem Dalvi (England), Saran Jamsri (Thailand), and Lakshya Sen (India) in the group stage.

Jonathan then maintained his positive trend by stopping Cho Geeyeop (South Korea) in the quarter-finals, Wang Tzu Wei (China Taipei) in the semifinals, and his peak extended dominance over Li Shi Feng (China).

The previous ten wins came five times in All England 2024 and another five times in Badminton Asia Championship 2024.

In All England 2024, Jonathan defeated Chou Tien Chen, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Shi Yuqi, Lakshya Sen, and Anthony Ginting.

While at the 2024 Badminton Asia Championship, the 2018 Asian Games gold medalist won over Jewel Angelo Albo, Lee Cheuk Yiu, Lee Zii Jia, Shi Yuqi, and Li Shi Feng.

Jonathan's victory over Li Shi Feng had revived Indonesia's hopes of bringing home the 2024 Thomas Cup trophy after Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, who went down first, lost.

Unfortunately, in the fourth party, Indonesia lost points again so the title had to fall to China. The pair Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri who participated in the party lost to the pair He Ji Ting/Ren Xiang Yu.

Indonesia is the runner-up for the Thomas Cup in two consecutive editions. In the previous edition of 2022, the Red-White failed to bring home the title after losing to India.

This is the third straight final of the Thomas Cup which Indonesia has won. In another final, namely the 2021 edition, Indonesia successfully brought home the title and ended the 19-year drought after stopping China.
