PVMBG Add Equipment To Monitor Post-Eruption Activities Of Mount Space
JAKARTA - Head of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Hendra Gunawan said his party would add equipment to monitor the activities of Mount Ruang in Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut).
"Maybe here we have to get used to it that the response to Mount Ruang is always on standby, that's a matter of hours of eruption," said Hendra as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 3.
He explained that on April 16, 2024, the status of Mount Ruang rose to Alert (Level II) because the earthquake rose from nothing to 10 times and rose again to 40 times.
Furthermore, on the same day, at 16.00 WITA, his status was raised again to Alert (Level III), even though from the experience of rising status it could take days, weeks, even months.

"One day later the status increased to Alert (Level IV). This is what must be photographed, Mount Ruang which we must face. In the future, we need preparedness from all parties, especially people who live not far from Mount Ruangan if in the future there are things like this again," said Hendra.
Usually, he said, mountains that have occurred once erupted will take a long time. But this is not the case with Mount Ruang which erupted again on April 30 after a break for several days.
At 21.30 WITA, the status of Mount Ruang was raised to Alert Level IV, even in the morning at 09.00 WITA the area was expanded from six kilometers to seven kilometers.
"We will install more equipment on Mount Ruang so that we can anticipate from the start. The team already exists with the equipment, only no one can enter there, because the captain is not in Tagulandang to install the equipment. We need a boat so please help," hoped Hendra.
