Hundreds Of Lebak Residents Refuge Due To The Flood Overflow Of The Cibereum River

Hundreds of residents of Lebak Regency, Banten, were forced to flee to a safer place due to the overflowing flood of the Cibereum River after heavy rains throughout Wednesday (1/5) night until Thursday (2/5) early morning.

"We and our families fled to relatives' homes, because the Cibereum River overflowed and inundated our settlements. Until this afternoon the flood had not subsided," said Nurhayati (45), a resident of Cibeureum Village, Maja District, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, May 2.

According to him, residents whose settlements were flooded were confirmed to evacuate. Currently, the water level ranges from 40-70 centimeters and the possibility of water continuing to move up.

In fact, he said, the house belonging to the local village head was also flooded.

Therefore, residents have left their flooded houses by securing household furniture, electronic equipment, motorized vehicles, and rice.

"We, who live in Lojor Village, have 107 housing units that were flooded," he said.

Ahmad (45), an officer from Cibereum Village, Maja District, Lebak Regency, said that currently there are around 350 families in the flooded area in Lojor Village, Bongkok Village, Jamlaung Village, and Cidadap.

The residents affected by the flood were because their location was on the banks of the Cibereum River, so natural disasters are subscribed to heavy rainfall of up to three to five hours.

According to him, the flooding that occurred from night to noon did not cause any casualties.

It is estimated that the flood resulted in losses of up to tens of millions of rupiah due to catfish and goldfish raised by residents being swept away by the flood currents.

In addition, the harvest ready padies are also flooded and it is certain that the puso or crop failure will be flooded, but the number is relatively small, because most farmers have harvested it.

"We hope for logistical assistance to relieve victims affected by the flood," he said.
