Manado Samrat Airport Closure Extended Until Afternoon
Manado - GM Manado Airport (Samrat) Maya Damayanti said the closure of Samrat Airport was extended until 18.00 WITA due to volcanic ash from Mount Ruang, Tagulandang, Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut).
"In accordance with Notam A1170/24 NOTAMR A1160/24, we have again extended the closure of Samrat Airport until 18.00 WITA this afternoon," Maya said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 2.
Maya said this was done in order to maintain aspects of flight safety and security.
Since Mount Ruang spewed volcanic ash on April 30, 2024, since that day Samrat Airport has been temporarily closed until this afternoon.
There were 65 planes and 7,039 passengers arriving and departing who were affected at Sam Ratulangi airport. Most of the passengers have carried out rescheduledan refund to their respective airlines.
The eruption of Mount Ruang accompanied by eruptions and hot clouds of Mount Ruang still occurred until 08:48 WITA, Tuesday (30/4) morning.
Based on the results of visual and instrumental monitoring showing an increase in volcanic activity, the activity level of Mount Ruang was raised from Level III (Alert) to Level IV (WAS) starting April 30, 2024 at 01.30 WITA.
