Britain Values Israel's Illegal Settlement Complicates The Realization Of Palestinian Countries

LONDON- British Foreign Minister David Cameron insists that the illegal settlements founded by Israel in the West Bank are a stumbling block in efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and realize the Palestinian state.

In a session of the international relations committee and defense committee of the British Parliament, the Noble Council (House of Lords), Cameron said on Tuesday, April 30, the illegal settlement had a negative impact on the survival of the Palestinian state.

"The construction of Israeli settlements in the West Bank is causing, technically, the more difficult it is for the Palestinian state to materialize, and we have to think about this," Cameron was quoted as saying by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 1.

This was conveyed by him in response to a question regarding the report by the upper house committee issued seven years ago regarding the possibility of realizing a two-state solution "often impossible to implement" and no longer feasible for both parties to conflict

He also said that although international recognition is important and gives hope to the Palestinian people, other aspects that allow the Palestinian state to stand must also be considered.

"We need to pay attention to things that are elements of the formation of the state, which includes the government and its governing ability," said Cameron.

Meanwhile, Cameron also emphasized that long-term peace and security stability in the Middle East will not materialize as long as the Palestinian issue is not resolved.

Palestinian problems still have to be addressed despite efforts to realize peace with the restoration of relations between Arab countries and Israel, as happened between Saudi Arabia and Israel.

"However, these efforts must also include the establishment of a Palestinian state and steps to make it happen," he said.

Regarding the current situation in the Gaza Strip, where Israeli aggression that has been taking place since October 7, 2023 has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians, Cameron expressed concern over the loss of life.

"Of course, the situation in the Gaza Strip is very worrying, and the death toll is very regrettable," said the British Foreign Minister.

In addition, Cameron stated that regarding the sustainability of Britain's funding of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, his party would first wait for the results of the investigation before making any decisions.
