The Sudirman-Thamrin Bicycle Route Is Almost Complete, Deputy Governor Riza Reminds DKI Residents To Be Disciplined In Traffic

JAKARTA - The construction of a protected bicycle lane on Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin is targeted to be completed by the end of March 2021.

The 11.2 kilometers long and two-meter wide bicycle path is equipped with several facilities. One of them is a bike rack which is useful as a rest area for cyclists.

In response to this, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria reminded residents, especially motorists, to discipline traffic rules (Lalin) by not entering the Sudirman-Thamrin bicycle lane.

This reward was issued following the viral video of luxury cars entering the bicycle lane on Saturday, February 27 on social media.

"Those who are cyclists on the path, should not use other lanes. Motorbikes should also not interfere with the bicycle lane, have each lane. Pedestrians are on the sidewalk. Do not cyclists enter the sidewalk. Moreover, motorbikes enter on the sidewalk", said Riza, Sunday, 7 March.

Riza hopes that the bicycle path can make people switch to using bicycles in their daily activities. He also wants people to ride cycling not only for sports and recreation but in the future it can become a means of transportation.

"Hopefully in the future more and more people, including those who use bicycles to work, to other destinations", hoped Riza.
