Vitalik Buterin Responds To Ethereum Community Doubts About Transition To PoS

JAKARTA - In the midst of growing debate in the Ethereum community, Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, provided clarification on the network transition from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS). Buterin responded directly to Amanda Cassatt's post, an American businessman.

Cassatt said that many members of the Ethereum community personally disagreed with the transition to PoS. He highlighted the desire of some members to keep Ethereum using PoW.

A forum member asked the reasons behind the preference for PoW, saying that the transition to PoS would help Ethereum leave a negative image as an energy-intensive kasino.

Buterin emphasized that PoW tends to be centralized and that PoS will support network decentralization. He stated that PoW was just a temporary phase before turning to PoS, which many entities had realized.

Bitcoin, which uses PoW, has hit a record high of more than $73,000 (approximately Rp1,183,615,000). Despite disagreements in the Ethereum community, the main developer argued that PoS could improve blockchain performance.

Ethereum has gone through a transition known as The Merger, which combines the mainnet with Beadow Chain, changing Ethereum from PoW to PoS. This transition ends the role of miners, with validators staking ETH to add blocks to blockchain.

The Merger is claimed to reduce Ethereum's energy consumption by up to 99.95%. Buterin told the Ethereum Community Conference that The Merge had completed about 55% of Ethereum's growth plans.
