6 Causes Of Gatal Sore Throat, One Of Them Is Because Of Allergy
JAKARTA - You must have experienced itching in your throat. Although it is a little annoying and uncomfortable, usually itching will subside by itself. However, sometimes a continuous itching throat can show health problems.
Erich P. Voigt, MD, professor at THT's head and neck surgery department at NYU Langone and host of the 'The Otolaryngology Show' on Sirius XM Doctor Radio. Reporting from Livestrong, Wednesday, sharing common causes the throat feels itchy and what you can do to overcome it.
Experiencing Seasonal Allergies
Seasonal allergies are likely to trigger symptoms of itchy throats. When you are allergic to something, for example powder, the body reacts to releasing chemicals called histaminas. Which results in itching eyes, nasal congestion, runnyness and/or sneezing, as well as itchy throats, says Dr. Voigt.
Experiencing Food Allergy
Like seasonal allergies, you can also experience an allergic reaction to food. It's true, "Itching throat may be the first indication of allergies [food]," says Dr. Voigt. When your body meets allergens, in this case certain foods, immune will respond by releasing histaminas.
Inhaling Polutan Or Iritan
Bad air quality, [that is air] filled with dust, smoke, smog, or other irritant material, can cause an itching throat, "said Dr. Voigt.
Not only outdoor air pollution is a big problem for lung health. However, indoor air problems can also cause health problems. In fact, research has found that air pollutants can be five times bigger indoors, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR).
And itching throats can be a health impact due to breathing indoor air pollutants. Over time, exposure to poor indoor air quality can trigger or contribute to the development of infection, lung cancer, and chronic lung diseases such as asthma, according to the American Lung Association (ALA).
Suffering from the flu
Colds or general respiratory infections can also cause your throat to itch.
Viruses and bacteria can infect the eyes, nose, and throat causing itching throats, said Dr. Voigt. But more often, these infections cause pain in your farming (namely sore throat), he said.
In addition to the thorny sensation (or pain) in the throat, 'infection is also associated with additional symptoms in the form of body pain, fever, cough, and excess mucus,' said Dr. Voigt. Signs of this accompanying disease is an accurate way to distinguish between ordinary flu and allergies.
Experiencing Reflux Asam
Acid refluxes can exacerbate the throat and trigger itching. Acid reflux occurs when stomach ingredients (food and stomach acid and enzymes) rise from the stomach to the throat, says Dr. Voigt. A form of chronic reflux, "gastroesofageal reflux [GERD] can cause a sense of throat irritation, end-and-break throat, itching throat, and a burning feeling in the throat," he said. In addition, GERD symptoms include heartburning, food regulation or acid fluid and upper or chest pain, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Smoking
Smoking can cause a persistent feeling of sharpness in the throat. And this itching effect is not limited to cigarettes only. Vaping, hoodah, and any activity involving inhaling substances can cause itching symptoms of the throat," says Dr. Voigt.
It's because smoking can trigger discomfort and inflammation in the throat. Factors such as heat (from cigarette burning) and smoke particles can damage the throat tissue, says Dr. Voigt.
Not to mention that cigarettes contain carcinogens and irritant chemicals that can also cause dehydration in the mucus membranes in the faring. This results in an itching throat, according to the World Allergy Organization.
