Kompolnas Urges 5 Police Leaders Arrested For Drugs To Also Be Examined

Member of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Poengky Indarti asked the superiors of the five police officers arrested for alleged drug abuse in the Depok area to be questioned for neglecting to supervise their members.

"The direct charges of the perpetrators who should supervise them must also be examined because if the members are suspected of committing violations and criminal acts, the direct superiors must also be held accountable," said Poengky, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 23.

According to Poengky, the superiors of the five police officers did not carry out inherent supervision (waskat) as stipulated in the National Police Chief Regulation (Perkap) Number 2 of 2022 concerning inherent supervision within the Police.

Waskat is carried out in order to prevent irregularities in civil servants' behavior in Polri institutions, which requires top control of subordinates' actions and activities in the form of inherent supervision.

"Because (his superior) has failed to monitor its members," said Poengky.

The commissioner of Kompolnas from the community element regretted the case of police officers being involved in drug abuse again and again. This time, five police officers were arrested by Polda Metro Jaya suspected of being involved in drug abuse.

"We will send a clarification letter to the Polda Metro Jaya to ask about this case and how it is handled," said Poengky.

As the external supervisor of the National Police, Poengky said a police officer should carry out his duties as well as possible to maintain security and public order (kamtibmas) by serving, protecting, protecting the community and enforcing the law.

"It's not even committing actions that are suspected of violating the law, let alone allegations of drugs that are common enemies," he said.

If the five police officers come from a drug investigation unit, said Poengky, it is very ironic. Therefore, Kompolnas encourages the examination of these members to be carried out professionally.

The examination, he said, was supported by scientific crime investigation and was transparently conveyed to the public so that the Police's accountability was maintained.

Not only that, he said, investigations need to be developed to see where the perpetrators get drugs. Is there a symbiotic relationship between mutualism and drug networks that should be fought together, or obtained from taking drug evidence.

"If any of these things happen then the perpetrators must be charged with criminal articles and a code of ethics," said Poengky asserted.

For the criminal process, according to him, the articles suspected need to be layered, including articles on the weight of punishment because these individuals are law enforcement officers.

"If a member dares to take drugs, then the person concerned is no longer worthy of being trusted to be a member of the National Police," he said.

Poengky also emphasized that for those suspected of being involved, strict steps in the form of criminal sanctions with the threat of maximum punishment and a maximum code of ethics in the form of dismissal are expected to have a deterrent effect.

Previously, officers arrested five police officers in connection with a suspected drug abuse case in the Cimanggis area, Depok, West Java, last Saturday.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombespol Ade Ary Syam Indradi confirmed the arrest. However, it has not detailed which identities and units.

Ade only added that this case was being handled by the Polda Metro Jaya.

"It's being investigated by Propam Polda. Please time," said Ade.
