Indonesia's Imports Drop 2.6 Percent In March Due To The Melesu Non-Oil And Gas Sector

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that Indonesia's import value reached 17.96 billion US dollars in March 2024. This value decreased 2.60 percent compared to last February.

Acting (Plt) Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said oil and gas imports were recorded at US$3.33 billion, an increase of 11.64 percent on a monthly basis.

Meanwhile, continued Amalia, non-oil and gas imports worth US$14.63 billion decreased by 5.34 percent on a monthly basis.

"The decrease in the value of imports on a monthly basis was due to a decrease in the value of non-oil and gas imports with a decrease of minus 4.48 percent," he said at a press conference, in Jakarta, Monday, April 22.

Amalia said the monthly decline in imports occurred in almost all types of goods. Imports of consumer goods fell to 12.8 million US dollars or 0.69 percent and imports of auxiliary raw materials fell 0.73 percent to 97.4 million US dollars.

Meanwhile, capital goods also fell by 11.26 percent to 368.9 million US dollars. Aidable raw materials contributed at least 73.53 percent of total imports in March 2024.

On an annual basis, continued Amalia, the import value in March 2024 fell by 12.76 percent. Meanwhile, the value of oil and gas imports rose 10.34 percent, while non-oil and gas imports fell 16.72 percent.

Amalia said oil and gas had increased import value both monthly and annually. Meanwhile, non-oil and gas is the opposite.

The decline in non-oil and gas imports was driven by a decrease in several commodities, especially mechanically and in parts, plastic and plastic goods. As well as vehicles and so on," he explained.
