Erick Thohir Wants SOEs In The Middle Of Falling Rupiah

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir warned state-owned companies amid the drop in the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar. He asked SOEs to predict what would happen in the next five months.

The reason, continued Erick, today's global turmoil has made the US dollar tend to strengthen, and the rupiah has weakened until now it has reached above the level of Rp. 16,000 per US dollar.

"That of course with today's global dynamics situation where the dollar may also strengthen, we have to predict what the next 5 months will be like. Is the dollar fixed like this, or will there be new stability. Then what kind of food," Erick told reporters, at the Ministry of SOEs Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 17.

Seeing this condition, Erick also admitted that he had sent messages via WhatsApp to all the president directors (directors), directors of finance (dirkeu), and directors of business risks to review operational performance, capital expenditures, debts that had matured, including corporate action plans.

"This includes stress tests. What are the conditions of each of these companies like today's dynamics. Not only the dollar but the supply of change as well," he said.

Erick said, he also requested that later each state-owned company must submit the reports a week or two in the future.

"To all SOEs, all Directors, Dirkeu, Risk Management to target and I ask for another 1-2 weeks they try to make a report," he concluded.
