Apple Asked To Build A HP Factory In Indonesia, Minister Of Industry Agus: The Component Is Ready

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the government continues to encourage commitment from Apple Inc. to build its factory in Indonesia.

He conveyed this after accompanying President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) with the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi when receiving the CEO of Apple Inc. Tim Cook at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 17.

Agus said that the industry in Indonesia already has a complete mobile phone component ecosystem.

"It (the commitment to build a factory) is also what we want to encourage. Actually, the cellphone components are ready in Indonesia. The batteries are cables and others, we will try business matching with Apple whether they can use domestic products that we are actually ready for," said Agus.

On the same occasion, the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi made the same statement regarding Apple's big dream to build a factory in Indonesia.

"Ask Team Cook (CEO Apple Inc) if possible more components from Apple to be made in Indonesia. Therefore, the issue is called global supply chain. The more components, the better for added value," he said.

"Anyway, Indonesia should become a global supply chain," he continued.

According to Budi, when Apple Inc products can be made in Indonesia, the selling price will be cheaper, especially in terms of taxes. "Yes, of course, if it is made here, the tax will be cheaper," he added.
