PALEMBANG - A five-year-old boy was reportedly swept away by the current in the Kikim River, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra. The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Palembang, South Sumatra rushed to search for the location. The incident began when the victim and her sister Seril (10) and Rani (9) cousin, were playing and swimming on the banks of the Kikim River. "While playing and swimming activities the victim who escaped from the monitoring of his two siblings suddenly drifted away by the river current causing the victim to sink," he said. He added that today is a search for the second day, where the search process has started at 07.00 WIB together with a joint SAR Team consisting of the Palembang Basarnas SAR Alert Unit Lubuk Linggau, BPBD Lahat, Koramil, Polsek and the community. The search was carried out by dividing the joint SAR Team into two (2) SRU. SRU 1 conducts a search by means of sweeping the water surface using rubber boats, and community boats as well as conducting circumscribers (artificated waves) in places where the victim is suspected. While SRU 2 if possible will dive at the initial location of the incident as well as locations suspected of casualties. "Hopefully with various efforts we are doing this, victims can be found immediately," he concluded.
