PB Police: Kamtibmas Condition In Sorong Safe After The TNI AL-Brimob Clashes
West Papua Police Chief Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir has ensured conditions for security and public order (Kamtibmas) in Sorong City, Southwest Papua, safe and conducive after the clashes of a number of Indonesian Navy Military Police (Pomal) Lantamal XIV/Sorong with unscrupulous members of the West Papua Police Mobile Brigade Battalion B Sorong.
"The evidence is that community activities in Sorong City are running as usual, because the situation is safe and conducive," he said at the Sorong City Police Headquarters during a press conference over the incident of clashes between the Indonesian Navy and members of Brimob, Sunday night.
This, he said, was thanks to the cooperation and commitment of Pangkoarmada III, Daspasmar III, Danlantamal and Danrem to keep the security and social security situation in Sorong City safe and conducive.
He ensured that cases of clashes between members of the Indonesian Navy and Brimob anggora elements would be resolved completely with ongoing investigation approaches to support the good relations that had been established so far.

Moreover, he said, a national agenda, namely the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) in November 2024, will take place, so that the commitment of the TNI and Polri to continue to oversee the national agenda so that it is safe and conducive can run well and optimally.
"So far, it has been recorded that our colleagues from the Indonesian Navy are still being treated and another member of the Tambrauw Police is still being treated, while five personnel from the Sorong City Police have been undergoing treatment and have returned," he said.
According to the Kapolda, the chronology of the incident began with a misunderstanding between the two parties, causing unwanted things to happen at Sorong Port.
He also expressed his gratitude to Pangkoarmada III, Daspasmar III, Danlantamal and Danrem who have committed together to resolving this issue in order to continue to build consolidation and strive not to repeat unwanted events.

The Commander of the Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada III) Rear Admiral TNI Hersan deeply regrets the unwanted incident, because the relationship between the TNI/Polri has been well established so far.

Previously, there had been clashes between a number of personnel from the Indonesian Navy Military Police (Pomal) Lantamal XIV/Sorong with members of the West Papua Police Mobile Brigade Battalion B Sorong, Sunday (14/4) morning at around 09.30 WIT.
It is strongly suspected that there was a misunderstanding between members of Brimob and Pomal TNI AL at Sorong Sea Port and then resulted in a fight between fellow officers. As a result, a number of police and Navy personnel were injured.
