The Premier League Will Implement Semiautomatic Offside Technology Starting Next Season
JAKARTA - The Premier League announced that it will implement Semiautomatic Offside Technology (SAOT) in Lliga Premier for the 2024/25 season.
"At today's Premier League shareholders meeting, clubs unanimously agreed to approve the implementation of Semiautomatic Offside Technology," the English Premier League wrote in an official statement quoted by eurosport on Thursday.
Furthermore, the league says that this new system is ready to be used next season or to be precise after the international break of fall.
"This technology will provide faster and more consistent placement of virtual offside lines, based on player optical tracking, and will produce high-quality broadcast graphs to ensure increased experience in stadiums and broadcasts for supporters," the Premier League said as quoted by Antara.
The SAOT system will use 12 special cameras installed at strategic points to see more clearly the position of the player and the ball on the field. As a result, the body parts that are considered offside can be seen with this special camera.

When an offside moment occurs, SAOT technology will help present a more precise image angle to be shown through three-dimensional images.
The three-dimensional image will be displayed on the big screen of the stadium's tribune and television shows. So that the audience can pay attention to the decision-making process by the referee.
It is estimated that an average of 30 seconds per decision can be saved through the use of SAOT.
With this, the English Premier League follows in the steps of the Italian Serie A which used SAOT 18 and La Liga which will also implement the technology next season.
SAOT will also be used in the 2024 European Cup (EURO) this summer.
