Malaysian Citizen Who Smuggled Illegal Cosmetics Arrested By Lanal Nunukan

NUNUKAN - The Second Fleet Quick Response (SFQR) Team of Naval Bases (Lanal) Nunukan, North Kalimantan (Kaltara) arrested a foreign national (WNA) from Malaysia when he entered Indonesian territory illegally using a speedboat.

The Commander of Lanal Nunukan Lt. Col. (P) Handoyo revealed that the foreigner who worked as a motorist entered Indonesia illegally in the waters of the mouth of the Lalesalok river, North Sebatik District, Nunukan Regency on Wednesday (3/4).

"The speedboat with Malaysia's hull number entered Sebatik island without having official documents, when motorists were examined it turned out that they were found carrying non-excise cosmetics which were allegedly smuggled from Tawau Malaysia," said Handoyo, Friday, April 5.

A motorist named Muhammad Fathurahman bin Ondah comes from Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia. Speedboat carrying 30 bottles of a Super Shine body lotion 500 ml worth selling Rp15 million.

"The cosmetics are confirmed to be illegal because they do not have a permit from the BPOM, not to mention entering Indonesia illegally without paying excise," he said.

Handoyo emphasized that the disclosure of one of the illegal cases at the border was the synergy between Lanal Nunukan and the relevant stakeholders, who was visited by the main tasks of the Indonesian Navy to protect the territorial waters from illegal activities.

"This smuggling failure originated from public information to the SFQR team regarding the increase in illegal activities at the border," he said.

"Personnel then increased the intensity of monitoring and marine security patrols (Kamla) on boats, speedboats carrying cargo and passengers from the direction of Tawau, Malaysia to traditional piers on the coast of North Sebatik," he continued.

The evidence that was successfully secured has been handed over to Nunukan Customs.

"The perpetrator (WNA) who violated Immigration, was handed over to the Nunukan Immigration Office for processing," he said.
