Progress Reaches 50.13 Percent, Tiga Dihaji Dam is Targeted to be Completed by the End of 2024
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets the construction of the Tiga Dihaji Dam in South Sumatra to be completed by the end of this year.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of PUPR, Endra S Atmawidjaja, said that currently the progress of the dam construction has reached 50.13 percent.
"And it is targeted that it will be completed by the end of 2024. After that, we will immediately fill in the reservoir", said Endra in a written statement received by VOI, Thursday, April 4.
Endra said the first dam in South Sumatra would later increase the water supply in the Komering irrigation area (DI) for 34,824 hectares (ha) of agricultural land.
"That way, agricultural products from South Sumatra Province will continue to be maintained throughout the year because they get sufficient and stable water flow from this dam", he said.
He added that the main goal of building the Tiga Dihaji Dam is to maintain the stability of water supply in Komering irrigation area in the dry season, which has only relied on the Komering River.
According to Endra, the challenge in water management to DI is in the dry season, where the water discharge of the Komering River that enters the irrigation canal is very limited.
"Meanwhile, during the rainy season, the elevation of the Komering River increases, so that the discharge that enters the irrigation channel is quite large. However, the water also brings sediments that settle at the bottom of the channel", he said.
In addition to irrigation, the Tiga Dihaji Dam also provides benefits for the conservation of water resources, flood control, fulfillment of raw water needs of 1 cubic meter per second, 4x10 MW of power plants and local tourism destinations and water sports infrastructure.
