Import Permit Has Not Been Issued, Bulog Buffalo Meat Stock Is Empty

JAKARTA - President Director of Perum Bulog Bayu Krisnamurthi said import permits for frozen buffalo meat commodities had not yet been issued.

That way, the realization of meat imports for Eid al-Fitr needs this year is nil.

"Nol (realization of buffalo meat imports). The reason is, there is no permit. Bulog cannot import buffalo meat," he said when met at his office, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 2.

Bayu admitted that the import permit for 100,000 tons of buffalo meat had been proposed by Perum Buloh since early 2024.

However, continued Bayu, the authorities related to the issuance of recommendations for import permits have not been given a green light regarding the assignment.

Bayu was also reluctant to comment further on the reason that the permit for importing buffalo meat had not been issued until now.

"The permit has been (submitted) 100,000 tons since the beginning of the year," he said.

Currently, said Bayu, Bulog also does not have a buffalo meat stock to meet the needs of Eid al-Fitr. The reason is because Bulog also does not have sufficient storage space.

"The stock in Bulog is empty. It's not in Bulog (the stock), because Bulog doesn't have a large-scale refrigerator (cooler)," he explained.
