The Constitutional Court's Answer Regarding The Request For Ganjar-Mahfud Presents The National Police Chief

JAKARTA - The Constitutional Court (MK) did not immediately agree with the request of the Ganjar-Mahfud camp regarding presenting the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to be heard in his statement at the General Election Result Dispute (PHPU) trial.

Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo stated that his party had actually agreed to present several names proposed by the applicant at the previous trial.

Based on the Court's expertise, there are four ministers who will be presented, namely Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy; Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani; and Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Tri Rismaharini.

Not only that, the Court also agreed to present the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP). They will be heard

"Kami kemarin ketika membahas akhirnya mengculkan pihak-pihak yang dianggil sudah mempertimbangkan 2 permohonan, jadi permohonan nomor 1 dan 2 dan kemutusannya seperti itu," ujar Suhartoyo dalam persidangan.

However, Suhartoyo said that if there was a new request regarding the party to be presented, the Court had to discuss it first.

This is because the Court will determine whether or not the requested party statement is relevant to be heard in court.

"So even if there is a new request, it will be discussed again. The one who has the consideration that it is needed or not is the court," said Suhartoyo.

The Ganjar-Mahfud Legal Team asked the Constitutional Court to present the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to hear his statement at the General Election Result Dispute (PHPU) trial.

The head of the Ganjar-Mahfud Legal Team, Todung Mulya Lubis, the presence of the National Police Chief in the trial can shed light on allegations of intimidation to the neutrality of police officers in the 2024 Umun Election (Pemilu).

"Why the police chief? Because later it will be shown that there are quite a lot of things related to the police, the police who carry out intimidation, criminalization, who are involved with neutrality in the campaign," he said.

In addition, Todung also said that when presented, the Ganjar-Mahfud camp wanted the National Police Chief to explain policies and orders related to elections.

"We want to ask the National Police Chief to provide explanations and accountability in his policies and orders, because it is not enough to only look at social assistance matters," said Todung.
